Have The Socons Been Unmuzzled?

The CBC is reporting that Conservative Party candidate Inky Mark has written an email to Manitoba Metis Federation leader David Chartrand, that Chartrand feels was a threat. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canadavotes2006/national/2006/01/18/metis060118.html In the letter Inky Mark (Inky, love that name, how can anyone named Inky be considered a threat?) writes "taking sides will hurt you and your organization sooner or later." Which Chartrand interprets as a threat to the Metis if they should choose to vote Liberal in this election. Chartrand said "I think firstly, that the issue has got to be, what was his intent behind it - to fearmonger me into not speaking out anymore?", and "Telling me I'm going to pay a price for speaking out and defending my people? That I take very strong exception to."
So how did little Dinky Inky (sorry to easy) respond, he says "I was just stating a reality. I mean, everyone knows the old phrase, 'don't bite the hand that feeds you," and "Well, sooner or later, if you take sides - it's never in the best interests of an organization such as his that depends on government. Governments come and go. They always change." Okay so this wasn't a threat than, Dinky Inky is simply stating a fact that the Conservatives are gonna form the next government, and cut off any groups that endorsed the Liberals, stating the obvious can't be considered a threat, right?
Hey Stephen you have done a good job so far muzzling the far-right of your party up to this point, but I think the smell of victory, and your own whacky statements about the Senate, Supreme Court and Public Service, have made them feel comfortable enough to think and talk on their own. Loose lips sink ships.

This is all we need. Some jackass in the Conservative camp taking the entire party. Say what you will about the Conservatives, the last thing Canada needs is yet ANOTHER Liberal government.

The American system of only 8 years is sounding pretty appealing right now.

i agree maybe with set election dates, though we would have maintain the whole non confidence thing in regards to minority governments. that being said, i would much rather have a liberal minority gov't than a conservative minority or majority, better the devil you know than the one you don't. sure i might sound like a liberal fearmonger, but i think that a liberal minority can be kept in check by a strong ndp and bloc, and maybe some social progression can acheived. a conservative minority will be politically impotent, the liberals if they have any pride left won't work them, the ndp won't work with them, and the bloc well who knows? if the conservatives win a majority well than the ndp irregarless of the numbers of seats they have in the house, will have no voice, the conservatives will have a clear mandate to implement their values of tax cuts, smaller government, and program cuts..... not to mention their views on ssm, and abortion that would set canada back 50 years.

to rjl. The American system states a President can only serve for 8 years. The party he or she would represents could have a president of their stripe indefinitely. Just like our system. In the parliamentary system, the length of time a P.M. is in power relates only to the popularity of the party elect and the leaders popularity within his own party.
Oh, and the last thing Canada needs is a Conservative majority!!! The world has moved on and we happily have moved with it. A conservative majority may set us back to the confused and mean spirited scenario presently occurring State-side

The problem with electing another Liberal minority is this: they work well with the NDP, get some legislation passed, fool the public into thinking they've changed, then bam!, another 13 years of Liberal rule. More scandals.

We need a Conservative minority for a couple years so that the Liberals can clean themselves up.

The NDP will work with the Conservatives. Minorities are their thing. If the Liberals want to govern the country again, they'll also work with the Cons. Canadians will want this parliament to last at least a couple years.

As for SSM and abortion, if the Cons have a minority, what can they do? The Liberals, NDP and Bloc are all on the same side with these issues.

I think that we should toss the entire idea of confidence votes. if a minority government presents a budget and it doesn't pass, don't call a stinkin election... get back to work and draft a budget that does pass. if that one doesn't pass, then FIND OUT WHY people don't like it, and start working together. if that means that people spend a year on the budget, well then at least they're not making OTHER bad decisions...

as far as I'm concerned, people should be elected to represent their riding (not just the 22% minority that elected them). The idea is to support good ideas right? Not just disagree because "someone" elected you to be the opposition...
