The Western Standard To Publish Cartoons Monday

The rightwing Western Standard, is going to publish the offensive Mohammed cartoons on Monday. Great, Canada for the most part has been able to skirt this whole controversy, sure a nutball prof from Halifax, pinned the cartoons to his office door, and a student paper at UPEI published the cartoons, only to have the paper pulled from circulation the same day, but all the major newspapers and media outlets refused to show the cartoons. So there you have it, freedom of press, speech, and expression, trumps logic, racial tolerance and good taste. Or more simply,
controversy sells magazines.

hrm.. i see your point. and i agree about the SELLING media and publishing the cartoons at this stage - bad taste and whoring, really. BUT! i dont know if i think what professor march did (posting the cartoon on his door) was so terrible. thing is, i've seen the cartoon! its not really as scary as i was starting to imagine it. once you see it, it kinda fizzles in its mystery and power. it's all about context!!!

mohammed with a bomb as a turban, sure it doesn't seem disturbing to us... but its the whole typecasting a whole racial or religious group as terrorists that i find wrong, and disgusting.... i am all for debate but its like over kill at this point, get over it i say,,, this whole thing has been far to intellectualized on both sides.... no class... good taste has left the building.
